We are used to designing products that are seen most of the time, whether outdoors in the open, or indoors. Some are quiet and discrete, some expressive and dramatic, but they are all visually exposed to everyone in their surroundings.
 

The challenge to design something that is rarely seen, but is essential in its function, is obvious. Only few will see it, and most of them are experts. The product we were asked to design is a unique differential for off road vehicles. It enables these vehicles to perform in an outstanding way, and cross impossible terrains. It is an "under under" the bonnet component.
 
How do you design a sophisticated mechanical muscle, hidden most of the time?
